People think they’re in love,
But realize it just isn’t enough,
My friends tell me they’ve found their one true love,
But somewhere along the line,
They end up breaking up.
Then to realize love is not just what it takes,
To build a happy family,
Until it’s too late,
Money, cars, sex and other superficial stuff,
To sustain each person’s needs because love just isn’t enough.
We’re all broken by the time we can tell,
That love was never the basis of every fairytale,
We must learn to know what we can consume,
As mere mortals,
So much is needed,
We foolishly greed for more than we assume.
And all I can say is when you look at a portrait of a happy family,
It isn’t always what it seems to be,
Sometimes it’s breaking from the inside and haunted by wounds that continue to run too deep,
For the naked eye to see……
I am blinded by this picture of a happy family.
